This morning started out cool and cloudy, and by mid-afternoon the rain came in. After the heat waves we’ve had, it felt like a gift. Everything slowed down, and I let it.
The Sound I Never Get Tired Of
I love the sound of rain. The drops tapping the roof, then the drops hitting the ground outside. It’s a soothing, natural rhythm, and it’s one of my favorite things about the cooler days.
Fresh Air and Furry Floors
The wind was blowing in on one side, so I left that window up with just a small crack to let the fresh air in. On the other side, I had one window all the way down and the other halfway down so the air could circulate. My air purifier was still running, too. The airflow helps a lot because I love to cook and make coffee.
I also vacuumed, which is a daily thing around here. When you live with 8 cats, it gets very furry all around!
A Breakfast Worth Savoring
Breakfast was an omelet with sautéed vegetables, fried banana with peanut butter, and a spinach jalapeño cream cheese wrap. All of it was delicious, by the way.
Normally I’d snap a photo and post it on social media. Today I didn’t. I just ate, enjoyed it, and stayed present in the moment. It felt really good.
Back to Work, With Big News
After cleaning up, I started my work day. And I’m so happy and excited that I can now book flights for clients!! That’s a big step for my travel business, and I’m grateful for it.
I tend to do my running, cooking, and eating first to get them out of the way. I’ve noticed that if I start working first, I get so focused on work and creating that I end up stuck at my laptop, seated, all day. I can be a workaholic when I’m in the zone, and I find it difficult to stop.
The Cats Approve (Mostly)
My cats were all happy and relaxed, except Pumpkin. To be honest, I don’t know what he was complaining about, because he ate and took his naps just fine. The rest played chase and chilled on the dashboard, which they love to do. Every now and then one or a few of them would sit on the counter, look out the window, and watch whatever was going on outside.
The Run That Didn’t Happen
I’ll be honest: I wanted to go for a run. By the time I had free time, it was already raining. I know that shouldn’t have stopped me, but I also didn’t want to get sick. So I let it go and gave myself some grace.
Savoring the Cool
We’re all very happy the weather is cooler, and we’ll be savoring these days until the temperature climbs again. I also know El Niño is hitting the beaches and shores hard this year, wiping out beaches and tearing down beach houses. So while I enjoy the cozy, I’m aware that the same weather is hard on a lot of coastal communities right now.
Shhh… A Little Secret
If you’re reading this, here’s something to keep between us: travel advisors can often get better prices and lower fares than you’ll find on your own. So if you’re curious, message me about flights, hotel packages, rentals, and activities. I’d love to help plan your next trip.
How do you spend a rainy day? I’d love to hear in the comments.
